PEACEABILITIES focuses on instilling caring, empathy and compassion, unlike other violence-prevention programs which emphasize controlling negative behavior. PEACEABILITIES proactively teaches children specific skills to increase their capacity to have peaceful relationships with others.

PEACEABILITIES is unique in that:

  • It emphasizes internal strengths of children, not external controls
  • It teaches specific skills with precision rarely available in other programs
  • It consists of materials collected from many cultures, ancient and modern
  • It includes stories, games, music, paintings, ideas, and activities
  • It allows for flexibility--activities can be used individually or in combination
  • It requires no lengthy instructions or preparations
  • It targets children during the formative period of 6 to 11 years old

The PEACEABILITIES program includes:

One core program book containing 18 chapters comprising 133 specific lessons and activities, color-printed and spiral-bound

Nineteen children’s books selected from a variety of authors, cultures, and traditions

Two videotapes containing movie clips and short films

One CD featuring original music

PEACEABILITIES, developed by Bonnie Ballif-Spanvill, P.h.D. and Claudia J. Clayton P.h.D., has been used successfully in schools, domestic violence shelters, after school programs, and transitional housing communities.
